Since I design all of our hand tied knotted leaders for specific purposes, I have designed four trout leaders to meet different needs. These all have a loop on the butt section, so you can carry them on our Foam Leader Keeper. Allowing you to easily put the desired leader on your fly line when you need it with a loop-to-loop connection. I personally believe the leader is just as important as the fly rod, reel, and line.
- Murray’s Mountain Trout Leader. These leaders are excellent for giving great accuracy and turning over tight loops in close quarters with low-hanging limbs. 6ft leaders in 4X, 5X, 6X
- Murray’s Trout Nymphing Leader. This leader is ideal for fishing nymphs because it has two built in Scientific Anglers Indicators (discontinued by Scientific Anglers and replaced by Murray’s Fly Shop Indicator) which help greatly in strike detection. 9ft leaders in 3X, 4X, 5X, 6X
- Murray’s Classic Leader (7 1/2ft) This is my standard leader with all size flies from size 8 to 24. 7 1/2 ft Leaders in 3x, 4X, 5X, 6X
- Murray’s Classic Leader (9ft) I have designed this leader to use on medium to large size streams when casting at all distances. It will handle all size flies from size 4 streamers down to size 24 midges. 9ft leaders in 0X, 1X, 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X, 6X, 7X
It is very important to select the leader with the correct size tippet based on the size fly you are using. This standard formula is an excellent guide. fly size divided by 3= tippet in X Example: size 6 streamer divided by 3=2X leader
