Many anglers have asked me about just what the advantages are when using an eleven foot two hand Switch Rod in smallmouth bass fishing.
1. In the high smallmouth rivers we have now it is very difficult to wade into the normal casting positions in order to fish the good runs and by using a switch rod you can reach across many of these powerful currents to fish your flies.
2. An extrapolation of this first point is that you can now negate some of the heavy water in order to drift your flies naturally.
3. With trees on a high bank behind you on the stream a normal back cast is difficult but with a switch rod you don’t need a back cast to make a good presentation cast.
4. If you need to make long cast the switch rod will easily help you do this.
