Smallmouth at Night

Many large smallmouth bass feed heavily at night. This fishing can be very exciting and it is not as difficult as you suspect. Here are four guides that I find very helpful. (1) Know the stream and bank in the area you plan to fish. This helps in fishing and getting in and out of the stream. (2) Have a small flashlight to help in changing flies, landing fish and getting out of the stream. I like the type that attaches to my hat. (3) Use a good wading staff to move safely and to check the depth of the water in front of you. (4) Wade slowly downstream and fish down and across stream, using a tight line so you can feel the strikes. Nymphs, streamers and surface bugs are all effective. Great fun and you have the river all to yourself.
