It Takes Courage

My young fishing partner had just hooked his first large brown trout and he was in trouble. He hooked the trout on a small dry ant on a 6X leader. After a short run upstream the trout reversed his course and ran downstream past Pete to stop under a small farm submarine bridge. Pete put good pressure on big trout but from his upstream position he could not move him. He looked up at me and said, “What do I do?” I told him that a tactic that sometime worked was to pull extra line from the reel and allow the current to pull it downstream of the trout. Pete did this and when the line pulled tight the brown swam out from under the bridge and went up beyond Pete where he successfully fought and landed the big brown.
