The large trout came up to your dry fly and you set the hook. No good. Either he missed the fly or you missed him. Either way you did not feel him.—He was a dandy and well worth casting to him again. The question is do you cast back to him right away or do you wait a while.

Hundreds of these situations have convinced me that I catch more of these trout by waiting two or three minutes for him to get on his feeding station before casting to him again.
