High Gradient Trout Streams

When the mountain trout streams get low late in the summer the trout become very wary and one can easily spook them before getting within casting distance. This is especially true in the long flat pools. A good way to find good action is to fish those sections of the streams with a very high gradient. Trout in these sections are not as wary. A good way to find these sections on unfamiliar streams is to check a topo map. When the lines get close together the stream is steep. On streams you fish several times a year make stream notes so you can refer back to this information.
