When fishing streamers across stream you will easily feel most of your strikes. However, as the fly swings down and across stream the line itself is giving you valuable subtle help. You can spot some strikes before you feel them at this angle by becoming proficient at discerning how the line is swinging normally in the current. If it acts differently assume a fish has taken your streamer and set the hook quickly.
