You are fishing a dry fly in a fast run and a large trout comes up, but just as you think he is going to take it a fast current causes it to drag away from him. Naturally you want to cast to him again, but here is where the dilemma arises.
I’ve matched wits with these trout for many years in many streams all across the country. There is a natural tendency to want to cast right back to that spot right away. However, experience has shown me that if I hold my cast for 2 or 3 minutes I take more of these trout than I do if I cast quickly back to him. I believe this delay gives the trout time to get back on his feeding station and to get back in his feeding mode.
