Wader Care and Repair

Wader Care and Repair blog

The proper wader care at home will increase the life of your waders. When I return from the stream I hang my waders in the shade in my garage. Place the boot foot up so air can flow around them. Never hang them in the sun to dry.

Leaks along seams are hard to find and repair. I clean and dry the surface of my waders. Mix one part Cure Accelerator to 3-4 parts of Aquaseal+FD in a plastic container. Paint the seam completely with this mixture and allow it to dry at least 2 hours. Then turn the waders inside out and paint the seam on the inside and let dry 2 more hours before using.

Punctures or holes can be repaired with Gear Aid Tenacious Tape after cleaning the waders. Simply cut the patch, remove the backing and apply with pressure from the center out. Apply a patch to both the inside and outside of the waders for best results.

Shoes can be repaired with Gear Aid Shoe Repair. First clean and completely dry the shoe. To bond soles that are coming loose, apply to both surfaces and allow to dry over night. I like to tie the sole down tightly by wrapping a whole shoe with a cord tightly.

Nothing ruins a fishing trip like a pair of leaky waders or shoes. Check our website for wading gear repair products including our GoreTex Repair Kit.
