We have a situation in our mountain brook trout streams in Virginia that I have not encountered in 40 years of fishing these fine streams. The many heavy rains we had in April and May have given us much better water levels in the heads of some of these streams than we normally find at this time of the year.
As you serious brook trout fishermen know, some of the finest dry fly trout fishing one can find is in the very heads of these streams in early April. Go for it!!! You now have April dry fly fishing in the heads of some of these streams in July.
Just two days ago when I was fishing one of these streams I caught all of my large trout in the “corners” of the pools…right where they were feeding in early April.
