Sparce Tail

Natural-olives1

Last fall I was fishing a very heavy beatis mayfly hatch with a new dry fly of the type which had been working well all week. The trout were rising to naturals all over the stream but none would take my fly. Finally I brought my fly in and looked at it carefully. Everything was fine except the tail was much too thick. Using my clippers I cut off three fourths of the tail fibers….the trout took my pruned dry readily.
