Smallmouth Movement

Many large smallmouth bass living in rivers don’t move far from home if this area provides adequate food, good cover and spawning areas. Several years ago I tagged a large smallmouth on the North Fork of the Shenandoah River. Thirteen months later a friend called and said he caught a bass with my tag in it. When I looked up that specific number I discovered that he had caught him within 20 feet of where I had tagged him….And in the intervening year we received an exceptionally high flood.
