Preventing bad falls when wading can often be achieved by evaluating the stream bottom ahead of you.
1. Sloping Ledges- which are found on both small mountain trout streams and smallmouth rivers should be avoided because you can easily slip on these and fall flat.
2. Tripping Rocks- those basketball size stones, found on the stream bottom on all streams can easily catch your toe as you wade forward and cause you to fall face forward into the stream. Just slow down and watch for these stone.
3. The Wobblers- those large rocks resting on a fulcrum which permit them to tip forward and backward when you step on them can result in bone-breaking falls when you step on them along the edges of steep mountain streams. To prevent this fall just test that next boulder before you put all of your weight on it.
