Rewarding Angling

A beginning angler’s goal is to catch lots of fish. Later he developes to where he wants big fish. After years, the serious angler evolves to where he gets his greatest gratifications from catching fish which are difficult to fool. For example, my son Jeff landed a 45lb. king salmon in Alaska the last week of September. A week later he fished a high mountain trout stream in Montana with me where he landed some small cutthroat after finally matching the naturals the trout were feeding on with his fly. Jeff said it was much more rewarding to fool those selective cutthroats than to catch that big gullible salmon.
