Quick Strike

When you are fishing dry flies upstream on a mountain trout stream that is so high and rolling so fast that you have trouble picking up the floating line fast enough to set the hook when a trout takes your fly there is a trick which will help you. It is a “Roll Cast Strike.” The instant you see the strike snap your fly rod forward just as if you were making a roll cast. This pressure put on the belly of the fly line is instantly transmitted to the leader and the trout is quickly hooked.
