Prevent Broken Rods

When you get back to your car after fishing the first thing you should do is to put your fly rod in its case. If, however, you cannot do this place your fly rod, with the reel on it, under the windshield wiper with the rod tip pointed back over the car. This simple act would have prevented my Yellowstone River guide from driving over two rods and breaking them when he laid them on the ground in front of his truck. It would also have prevented me from having a tractor trailer drive over and break two rods when they blew off the top of my SUV on I-81 when I put them there after fishing and forgot to put them away.
