Pretreat Dry Flies

A properly dressed dry fly will float naturally and catch many trout

My Murray’s Liquid Dry Fly Floatant which I make in my pharmacy in Edinburg is an outstanding product to pre-treat your dry flies in order to improve their floatation when fishing. The vehicle I use in this enables the water proofing compound to penetrate deep into the body and hackles of the flies. If you select the flies you plan to fish with for the day and immerse each one in this floatant for several seconds then shake them off and put them in your fly box they are ready to use when you get to the stream. You’ll be amazed how this improves the floatation of your flies.

When used daily on the stream this floatant is also outstanding because it both cleans and waterproofs the fly in one step. However, remember before treating any fly that has absorbed water and is sinking it is important to blot it dry with a Murray’s Dry A Fly Patch or similar product. Putting Dry Fly Floatant on a water-logged fly actually compounds the problem and the fly will sink.

Also a dry fly on which you have caught a trout should be rinsed thoroughly in the stream before blotting and dressing.
