Natural Drift

Being able to bridge the fast currents in a small mountain trout stream is essential to getting a natural drag free drift with a dry fly in order to catch trout. There is a great temptation to use very short fly rods to cast under the tree limbs on these streams. However, in my schools and personal fishing I’ve found that fly rods shorter than 6 1/2 feet long are very poor in bridging fast currents.
