Murray’s Hand Tied Knotted Leaders
Many of my customers have asked excellent questions about which leaders I use for different types of fly fishing and why. I’ve designed 7 different styles of hand tied compound knotted tapered leaders. Below is a break down of the leaders with basic information on their use.
Murray’s Leaders
- Bright Butt Knotted Leaders–These hand tied leaders are the best all-purpose bass leaders and trout nymphing leaders made. The long fluorescent butts and pre-installed Murray’s Fly Shop Indicators simplify strike detection and large bug and fly presentations. 9ft. Available in 0X to 6X
- Classic Knotted Leaders–We build these to my special tapers with firm butt and mid sections, switching over to more flexible tip sections for the most realistic drifts and natural presentations. These turn over perfectly in all wind conditions at all distances and afford perfect drifts with all fly sizes.
9 ft. – Available in 0X to 7X and 7 1/2ft. Available in 2X to 6X - Bass Bug Knotted Leaders–I’ve designed these leaders using materials and tapers that will help you cast large bass bugs accurately and smoothly at all distances even during windy conditions.
9 ft. Available in 0X to 3X - Trout Nymph Knotted Leaders–I’ve developed these leaders with special compound knotted tapers which will give you great accuracy with all types and size nymphs. We have also installed two Murray’s Fly Shop Indicators on each leader to help you detect the trouts’ strikes.
9 ft. Available in 3X to 6X - Big Game Knotted Leaders–These were designed with large diameter, stiff butts to simplify casting large flies and bugs even in very windy conditions. The abrasion resistant, high knot strength material lets us easily subdue the largest saltwater fish, salmon, steelheads and largemouths. 9ft Available in 6lb, 8lb, 10lb, 12lb. 15lb.
- Fluorocarbon Knotted Leaders–These are made with 100% Fluorocarbon material. They are tied to my specifications to assure they will turn over smoothly and present the flies accurately. We like to use these leaders when nymph fishing or streamer fishing. 9ft Available in 2X to 6X
- Fluorocarbon Sinking Line Leaders–We build these 100% Fluorocarbon Leaders to turn over heavy streamers. Fluorocarbon characteristics provide for low visibility in the water and high abrasion resistance. 6ft Available in 2X, 3X
