Low Limbs

Smallmouth bass often hold along the banks 20 feet back under tree limbs that hang down to within 6 inches of the river. It is very difficult to cast a surface bug back under limbs this close to the water. A better ploy is to cast your bug tight to the bank in an opening of the limbs upstream of your hot spot and let the current drift it down to the waiting bass before you impart any action. Often the big bass here are easy to catch because they do not see many flies or lures.
