Hook Them

Frequently a down and across stream presentation will give you a very natural drift with size 24 Tricos and pseudeocleons. However, a conventional up-lifting rod strike at this angle often fails to hook the trout because it pulls the fly directly out of the trout’s mouth. A much higher percentage of hooked trout can be achieved by sweeping the rod at a low angle to your side. This pulls the fly into the side of the trout’s jaw where he is solidly hooked.
