Gentle Release of Large Trout Properly Back Into The Stream

It is important that we release large trout properly if we expect them to survive.

Here are some rules I like to follow:
(1) Land the trout as quickly as possible.
(2) Use a landing net on the large trout but not on the small trout.
(3) Keep the trout in the water.
(4) Use barbless hooks.
(5) When returning the trout to the stream, hold them securely while facing them into the current in water about two feet deep.
(6) Once the trout is stable, step away slowly so you do not scare him. This would cause him to lunge into the deep water where you cannot reach him.
