Wary Mountain Trout

When mountain trout streams get low late in the season the trout become very wary and we scare many of them in the lower and mid-pool areas as we approach the pools. If you use a low cautious approach, however, you may not scare some on feeding stations in the heads of the pools. You can catch these trout by staying below the pool and shooting long casts up into the heads of these pools. To prevent getting drag on these long casts I use a “puddle” slack line cast.
