Trout Fishing in remote streams beyond the sight and sound of others is very rewarding. Often this includes visions of long hikes in remote mountains in the Rockies.
However, this can be achieved in other ways. There are over twenty trout streams and many small feeder streams holding wild stream-bred trout which are accessible from trails off the Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah National Park. I’ve covered all of these in my book Trout Fishing in the Shenandoah National Park.
This fishing is outstanding from mid March to mid June because of hatches and water levels. From June to September if we get sufficient rains then the streams will hold up all summer. The brook trout spawn from early October through December so I try not to fish during that time period.
Planning a hiking, camping, and fishing trip over a long weekend is a great way to explore remote areas and enjoy the solitude a trout stream can offer.
