Smallmouth Bass in the Bank Bays

We are coming into the stream conditions when you can catch some large smallmouth bass in the “bank bays”. These are those 2 to 3 foot deep indentations that high waters cut back into the river banks. They range from 10 to 20 feet long and are usually cut 5 to 6 feet back into the bank. Start at the upper end of these “bank bays” by wading and floating 40 feet off the bank and cover each with about 20 casts.
