We have designed two Euro Nymphing Leaders to cover the type of fishing most often encountered in our region. Both leaders come with a tippet ring to make rigging up and hitting the water a faster process. We recommend using a fluorocarbon tippet material with these Euro Nymphing Leaders.
Fluorocarbon tippet is preferred for two simple reasons;
1) Fluorocarbon has a specific gravity greater than one so it sinks.
2) Greater abrasion resistance compared to nylon monofilament.
Our 7′ Euro Nymphing Leader is specifically designed for Mountain Trout Streams (or any streams) with overhead obstructions which hinder the ability of the angler to high stick more than 6 – 8′ above the stream.. These leaders are not designed to fish water greater than 5′ deep though you can make them work in a pinch.
Our 13′ Euro Nymphing Leader is designed to cover the majority of angling needs elsewhere. By varying the length of the tippet based on the depth of the water you can cover a large portion of most streams and rivers with these leaders. These work very well on the Smallmouth Bass rivers in the mid-Atlantic. We typically use a 3-4′ tippet on these for the Shenandoah River.
We have a complete Euro Nymphing Kit here.
