Many of the trout feed heavily on natural nymphs in the full streams early in the season. Often these streams are slightly discolored and it helps to fish flies they can see. Marinaro always recommended black flies in discolored water.
To give yourself a slight advantage a two-fly rid can be very effective. The Murray’s Skunk Road Kill Nymph size 8 attached to the new Murray’s Trout Nymph Leader 9ft. 4X with a Murray’s Dark Stonefly Nymph size 12 on a two foot 4X mono dropper coming off the Road Kill Nymph hook bend with an improved clinch knot is excellent.
The trout are not wary in the discolored water so you can start at the head of the pool on streams that are over 30 feet wide and fish down and across stream. Cast across the current and after the nymph sinks deeply fish it back across stream with a slow line hand twitching action. Wade slowly down the side of the pool stopping every two feet to fish these nymphs across the currents.
