Fly tying has many benefits to anglers. First, some find it relaxing after a hard day of work. Others like to turn it into a weekly socializing event. Then you have the anglers that just like to tie their own flies in a variety of colors to prepare for the next season plus save money in the long run.
Murray’s Fly Shop is offering fly tying workshops to get anglers started.
Fly Tying 101 Workshop
This two hour workshop held at our fly shop in Edinburg, VA will teach you how to tie dry flies, nymphs, streamers and deer hair bass bugs that are effective all across the country. Workshop is for beginners and tyers that want to brush up on their techniques. We do not supply the materials for this workshop. Therefore, you can purchase one of our basic fly tying kits, bring your own materials, or just watch as I tie the sample flies. NEW for 2024–Minnow Changer Fly Tying Class
Learn how to tie a Minnow Changer which is very popular in the smallmouth bass world. Our experienced instructor, Brandon, will guide you through each step using a prepackaged kit that consists of enough materials to tie 6 Minnow Changers. Class is recommended for tyers that know the basics but want to hone their skills on complex flies such as the Minnow Changer. Class size is limited, so pre-registration is required. Deer Hair Bass Bug Fly Tying Class
Unleash your creativity as you learn to craft custom bass bugs using high-quality deer hair. Our experienced instructor, Brandon, will guide you through each step, from material selection to the most effective tying techniques. Join us for an immersive class that not only hones your fly tying skills but also prepares you to create irresistible patterns for topwater bass fishing success.
We do not supply the materials for this workshop. Therefore, you can purchase one of our kits (for around $100), bring your own materials, or just watch as Brandon ties the sample flies. Vise and bobbin are not included in the kit so you will be responsible for providing your own. Class is recommended for tyers that already know the basics but want to learn more about tying deer hair bugs.
