Virginia offers excellent fly fishing for both trout and smallmouth bass.
Part 1- Trout
The cool mountain streams flowing from the Blue Ridge Mountains in the center of the state and the Appalachian Mountains along the western edge of the state provide an ideal habitat for trout. Some of these are easily accessible while others are quite remote thus offering a true wilderness adventure for anglers who enjoy hiking in several hours to fish for the wild trout.
Two of the books written by Harry Murray will help you find these streams, show you the access points, the hatches, and the best flies and tackle to use. His book Trout Fishing In The Shenandoah National Park covers all of the best streams in the Park. His book Virginia Blue Ribbon Streams covers all of the best smallmouth bass rivers and trout streams throughout the state.
