The trout in the mountain streams feed deeply at this time of the year. The largest and most active mayfly nymphs in these streams at this time are the Epeorus pleuralis. This is the fly I developed the Mr. Rapidan to match. A very effective tactic is to fish a Mr. Rapidan Bead Head Nymph 12 or 14 upstream dead drift. Be sure to space two SA Indicators along your 9ft. 5X Classic or Bright Butt Leader to help detect the strikes. These natural nymphs are now in the riffles so cast your nymph up tight against the riffles and fish it all the way back down into the main part of the pools.
