When bass are holding deeply on large streams when the water is higher than normal it is helpful to use a moderatley fast sinking line like a Teeny 200 sink head or a SA Mastery Sink Tip III line.
These definately enable us to swim our streamers quite deeply where the large fish are feeding but this extra depth presents two problems.
1. Setting the hook when you feel the strike is a challenge because the extreme depth makes it take longer for us to feel the take and longer for us to telegraph our strike back and hook the fish. My solution is to keep the rod pointed where the line comes out of the water and to set the hook forcefully with both the rod and my line hand.
2. The second problem deeply sunken lines present is picking them up from the deep water to make the next cast. My solution for this is to use a roll cast pick up to get the line free of the water then make a regular presentation cast.
