Surface Bug Success

Carrying a variety of hard head surface bass bugs will definitely help you catch many large bass

Catching large smallmouth bass consistently on the surface is governed by our ability to impart the specific bug action which is needed in different parts of the rivers in all conditions.  This action with hard head bugs is determined by the shape of the bug and the cut of it’s face.

In order to achieve different bug actions I developed the Shenandoah Bug Series.  The Shenandoah Chuggar with it’s fat body and deeply cut face will help you create a loud action which is effective along the banks in water over 4 feet deep.  The Shenandoah Slider with it’s pointed nose and long slim body enables you to produce a gentle teasing bug action that is often the most productive action beside shallow grassbeds and over the shallows along shaded river banks.  The Shenandoah Poppers with their up-sloping face and long tapered bodies are very versatile in a broad variety of situations.  The Shenandoah Carolin Blue Popper is my personal favorite because it seldom lets me down.
